Paul Crespo has over 30 years experience in politics, journalism, the U.S. military, diplomacy, intelligence, and security.
He heads the Center for American Defense Studies (CADS) a national security think tank, and is the Managing Editor of American Defense News.
He also heads SPECTRE Global Risk, a private security and intelligence company.
He has advised Fortune 500 companies overseas, served on a London-based team that responded to shipping piracy around Africa, and negotiated kidnappings in Latin America.
Paul is an ASIS International 'Certified Protection Professional' (CPP). He is also a licensed Private Investigator (PI) and Personal Protection Specialist (PPS).
A prolific writer, Paul served on the Editorial Board of the Miami Herald - as a columnist and editorial writer. He has been published in the Washington Times, El Nuevo Herald, American Legion Magazine, Newsmax and the US Naval Institute's Proceedings Magazine.
Fully bilingual in English and Spanish, he has appeared on CNN, Fox News, Sky News, Univision, Telemundo as well as Voice of America (VOA) TV and radio.
In Miami he co-hosted a daily radio show in Spanish with award-winning journalist Maria Elvira Salazar, now a US Congresswoman. Paul ran as a conservative outsider for both US Congress and the Florida State House (unsuccessfully), and worked on both GW Bush presidential campaigns (successfully).
He also taught US and world politics at the University of Miami, where he served as one of the university's 2004 election experts.
As a defense contractor, Paul led projects at the Pentagon’s Special Operations Command (SOCOM), including the development and highly successful launch of the first tri-lingual regional news ('influence') website for Latin America and the Caribbean at US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM).
A former US Marine Corps officer, he served as an artilleryman, and with the helicopter assault company of a Marine Expeditionary Unit-Special Operations Capable (MEU-SOC) aboard an amphibious assault ship in the Pacific.
He also led a Marine airborne fire support team with an Air/Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO) attached to (and parachuted with) the Army's 82nd Airborne division. He also performed air assault operations with the 101st Air Assault division.
Paul later served as an intelligence officer and Foreign Area Officer (FAO) with the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) where he was posted as a Naval and Defense Attaché (military diplomat) at various US embassies in the Balkans, Persian Gulf, and South America.
He has studied, worked and lived in five countries and visited over 50 countries worldwide.
Paul is a graduate of Georgetown University and has advanced degrees from both the University of London and Cambridge University in the UK.
He is an avid Scuba diver, parachutist and skier.
